Music is woven into our worship with the congregation joining together in song several times during the service. Our hymnal, Hymns of Truth and Light, was compiled by FCC members in 1993, and is now used by more than 100 other congregations.
If you enjoy singing, consider joining our choir. They perform one or more anthems at every worship service. The rehearsals are fun and reasonable in length. Their singing is often supplemented by additional soloists or Instrumentalists. They fill our Meetinghouse with a joyful noise every Sunday.
If you enjoy playing an instrument, consider joining our Bell choir which is featured often during worship. If you are accomplished on a particular instrument, let our music director know. We are always looking for ways to add music to worship.
Our Concert Series
Since 2017, First Congregational Church of Houston’s Music at the Meeting House has grown into being one of the city’s most respected classical chamber music series and has done much to educate, enrich and enlighten the hundreds of and enlighten the hundreds of concertgoers who’ve attended its concerts these past nine years. As the Series enters its 10th season, it’s worth noting what it has achieved thus far and what it plans to achieve in the future.
First, it has created a loyal following of classical music enthusiasts who’ve greatly enjoyed the quality and expertise of the artists and ensembles it has featured and who’ve fully appreciated the unique properties of the Meeting House that have given them an opportunity to hear – and see – music performed in a venue unlike any in the city.
And second, as part of its stated mission, it has not only championed contemporary works written by composers from Houston and elsewhere in the US and abroad but has had a number of new works premiered on the Series – most notably the first performance of the Houston composer Karl Blench’s Open Source commissioned by the Axiom Quartet for First Congregational Church that recounts the history of its founding and discusses through recitation and song the relationship between sanctuary and inclusivity.
As for 2026 and beyond, the Series will continue to search for young and up-and-coming Houston classically trained artists and ensembles to add to its roster and to champion new and, as yet, unknown works by contemporary classical American and international composers. It will also begin bringing jazz to its audiences and begin introducing them to non-western music, most notably the music of Asia, the Middle East, Africa and India.

If you like your music more casual, drop by our Farmer’s Market. At the market, we feature local folk musicians that provide the sound track for your shopping. It’s also okay to just come by for the music. The Memorial Villages’ Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday from 9AM to 1 PM in the FCC parking lot.
